The 2014 Pure Michigan Governor’s Conference on Tourism took place March 9th – 11th at the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa in Traverse City, in which four of our employees had to opportunity to attend. The conference allows for industry leaders from the across the state to gather and discuss important events occurring within the realm of the Pure Michigan brand and the trends in tourism. While each of us took away a lot from the event we’re pleased to inform everyone that the Governor has plans to increase the budget for the Pure Michigan campaign! Not only has the Pure Michigan campaign branded the state as a destination, it is seeing a huge return on investment with 2013 bringing in $6.66 in state tax revenues for every dollar spent… That’s up from $5.76 in 2012.
We’d like to thank the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa for hosting the conference, Travel Michigan for the dedication to the Pure Michigan brand, Michigan Tourism and Lodging and Association for facilitating the event, and George Zimmermann for his years of commitment to the state (and hopefully years more enjoying it’s bounties in retirement!). We plan on putting to use the great things we learned and look forward to attending next year, when the conference is held in Grand Rapids!
