KidZone Activity

The Grand Haven Salmon Festival started early for the staff of the Holiday Inn and Jack’s Waterfront Bistro + Bar! The newly crowned KidZone coordinator and Marketing Director of the Holiday Inn headed to the site of the KidZone to start setting up tables and greeting other vendors while the General Manager headed down to the site of Jack’s Booth in the Salmon cook-off to decorate before the Executive Chef’s arrival. At 10AM sharp the kids starting making their way to our booth filled with face painting and a pine cone bird feeder activity. Non-Profits lined the yard around the Grand Haven Sailing Club filled with fishy fun activity including live animals, painting, a fishing simulator, fishing pond, Coast Guard, ArtWalk, and even Michigan Butterflies. The list continues with volunteers dedicating their time to enhance the family fun at the free Grand Haven Salmon Festival KidZone. With a huge CHEERS to the 10 years the Grand Haven Salmon Festival has been happening, Smokey the Bear and Woodsy the Owl made an appearance! Kids were given stickers

Smokey the Bear and Woodsy the Owl with the opportunity to take their picture along their favorite forest friendly characters with the reminders that “Only you can prevent wildfires!” and to also “Give a hoot don’t pollute!”

While the kids were kept occupied, the much anticipated and most attended event of the Festival was taking place as the Salmon Cook-Off and Wine/Beer Tasting beginning at 1PM. Local chefs took their places as they served up some delicious salmon creations. Jack’s chose to offer up Salmon Sliders and Salmon Mac “N” Cheese. While the event is judged, there is also a peoples choice in which voting takes place. Working vigorously to meet the demands of the crowd, the Salmon Mac “N” Cheese took home the Best Presentation Award!

The afternoon ended with satisfied stomachs, stacks of newly created crafts, and the end of the Grand Haven Salmon Festival Saturday. The award winning festival ended again with a strong continuation of sustainability, fall family fun, and Salmon! We’re thankful for your attendance and want to give a round of applause to the highly dedicated and AWESOME team at the Grand Haven Area Convention and Visitors Bureau!
